Who We Are

The Fairfax County Rental Program (FCRP) includes all rental property owned by the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCRHA) and developed with funds other than Public Housing funds. This program includes housing for families, single persons, seniors, and supportive housing for special populations. There are over 1,929 FCRP multifamily units as described below.  There are a total of 504 senior units also managed under the FCRP program.

Some developments have FHA-insured, reduced rate mortgages and some units receive Housing Choice Voucher (formerly Section 8 Program) subsidies, making them affordable to lower income households. The FCRP serves a range of households with incomes from the low teens to moderate incomes, depending on program component. Except for Housing Choice Voucher assisted units, all units have a minimum rent requirement and thus a minimum income for eligibility. The FCRP generally serves working households with incomes which are higher than those households in the Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher programs.

Call the waiting list hotline at 703-449-9050 to find out which lists are open and accepting applications. TTY users call 703-385-3578.

Applicants are screened by confirming information provided on the pre-application form, including checking credit records, rental references, and police records. In some cases, HCD conducts a home visit to see how the family is caring for its current dwelling. Residents generally pay a minimum rent or 30% of their household income, whichever is greater, up to a ceiling (maximum) rent.
