Who We Are

New Generations a program of the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board, is a residential treatment program for mothers or expectant mothers who have a substance use disorder or co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. Women entering New Generations are pregnant, or enter with their child who is four years old or younger, or are in a parenting relationship with a child who resides elsewhere.

Residential treatment includes individual, group and family therapy; psychiatric services; medication and case management; and continuing care services to help with the family’s transition back to the community.

New Generations also provides parenting education and on-site child care. The babies and children receive appropriate vaccinations and routine medical checkups. Mothers receive help to find employment and housing before leaving the program.

The mothers and their children generally stay about six months at the main facility and then another six months in an apartment-based re-entry program. Once they are living on their own with their child, they continue to receiving services on an outpatient basis for another six months.

The program has been a partnership between the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board and Christian Relief Services for more than two decades.

The services provided at New Generations help mothers make lasting, positive changes. And by improving birth outcomes and strengthening families, this program can change the entire trajectory of a child’s life.
