Health Education and Careers

The mission of the Eastern Virginia Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program is to promote health careers and access to primary care for medically underserved populations through community-academic partnerships. The mission is accomplished through the following four major areas of program activity:



Goal 1: Develop health careers recruitment programs for Virginia's students, especially under-represented and disadvantaged students

Goal 2: Support the community-based training of primary care health professions students, residents, and other health professions students in Virginia's underserved communities

Goal 3: Provide educational and practice support systems for the Commonwealth's primary care providers

Goal 4: Collaborate with health, education, and human services organizations to achieve the shared goal of improved health and disease prevention for the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
